Update: Why concrete is ideal for radiant heat floors

With the colder months getting closer and closer, many business owners are wondering how they can make their space more comfortable for their customers and guests. Especially in places like hotels where guests depend on the comfort of the space, a concrete floor can be beautiful, but a bit cold when the weather gets colder, but heated concrete floors can make all the difference

Less expensive options like rugs can be a great choice if you live in a climate that doesn’t get too cold or your concrete floors are confined to a small area, but they could still be a bit uncomfortable for your guests if the rugs are few and far between. Your best solution is having radiant heat installed underneath your concrete floors. They are easy to install and improve your living space. Having heated concrete floors is an option that will save your guests from cold feet!

What is radiant heat floor?

A radiant floor heating system radiates heat upward to the surface of the floor. To look at it in simple terms think of it like a stove top that warms the surface. Unlike a stovetop, radiant heated floors do not get too hot. The temperature of these floors is around normal body temperature. It’s perfectly safe to walk around the surface of these floors barefoot. Plus, they help control the temperature in the rooms.

There are two types of radiant heated floors: electric radiant floors and hot water (hydronic) radiant floors.  You can install tubes that circulate hot water or electrical heating elements installed underneath to create heated concrete floors. Electric radiant floors consist of the electric cables installed on the floor. These kinds of radiant floors allow the concrete to warm up and store the heat. Hydronic radiant floors pump hot water into the tubes and warm up the surface of the concrete floors. You can use thermostats to regulate the room temperatures. Both options are easy and simple to have installed.

Why is concrete ideal?

Concrete is the ideal material for radiant floor heating. It’s a natural carrier of radiant heat because of its inherent thermal mass. As the water or electrical currents heat the floor, the concrete floors start to radiate the heat outward to the surface.

The benefits of a heated concrete floor.

Comfortable

With radiant heated concrete, you will have the benefit of living more comfortably. Your guests will be able to enjoy not having to walk around cold floors. Every room in the house will feel much warmer and comforting. You’ll even start to notice no cold spots anywhere in the house.

Better air quality

If you are someone who struggles with allergies, asthma or other breathing problems, radiant heated concrete floors could be the answer to your problems. Unlike typical home heating, there is no infiltration of outside air. Radiant heating will provide your home with much cleaner air you can enjoy.

Green

Are you looking to go green? Not a problem with radiant heated floors. It is considered one of the most energy-efficient options for warming up your home. It uses less energy to warm up your space than with having air-forced heating. Most furnaces use fossil fuels that can pollute the environment and the air you breathe.
